In the hospitality industry, ensuring employee safety and regulatory compliance is a cornerstone of operational excellence.

NFP’s Safety and Risk Consulting (SRC) team partnered with a large hospitality management company to deliver comprehensive hotel safety training tailored to the unique needs of their employees in New York state and New York City.

Challenge

Hospitality environments present a wide range of safety risks, from chemical exposure to ergonomic injuries. Additionally, evolving societal concerns such as human trafficking have underscored the need for broader awareness and training. The hospitality management company sought a training partner who could:

  • Deliver OSHA-compliant training annually.
  • Adapt to emerging safety topics.
  • Offer on-site safety insights.

Our Solution

The SRC team provides an annual hotel safety training program that is updated each year based on new regulations and client input. The training covers key safety topics such as developing and employing emergency procedures, using personal protective equipment, handling chemicals safely, preventing back injuries and dealing with bed bugs.

In 2025, a new section on recognizing and reporting human trafficking was added to address current industry issues. The training is offered in two sessions each day to fit different work schedules, and Spanish-language materials are available so all staff can participate.

Additionally, SRC consultants conduct a courtesy health and safety walkthrough, offering verbal recommendations to further enhance workplace safety.

Results

  • Consistent Client Satisfaction: Hospitality properties have expressed strong satisfaction with the training’s relevance, delivery and impact.
  • Expanded Scope: The addition of the Human Trafficking module has been particularly well received, aligning with broader corporate social responsibility goals.
  • Improved Compliance: Properties report increased confidence in meeting OSHA and New York state and New York City training requirements.
  • Enhanced Safety Culture: Employees are more engaged and proactive in identifying and addressing safety concerns.

Client Feedback

Feedback from this large hospitality client with multiple properties across New York City has consistently highlighted the value of SRC’s annual hotel safety training. Risk Management and HR teams have noted that the training empowers employees to actively participate in safety initiatives, offering suggestions and collaborating with management to strengthen internal safety programs.

The addition of emerging topics such as human trafficking awareness has been particularly well received, demonstrating SRC’s responsiveness to industry concerns. Clients have praised the training’s relevance, accessibility through Spanish-language materials and the added benefit of on-site walkthroughs, which provide actionable insights tailored to each property.

Conclusion

Feedback from Risk Management and HR teams shows that this training truly empowers employees. Staff feel motivated to take an active role in safety, share their ideas and work alongside management to make safety programs even stronger. Overall, this case study highlights not only the technical expertise of the training but also its positive influence on building a culture of safety and ongoing improvement.
