July 25, 2017
On June 15, 2017, Gov. Abbott signed HB 1036 into law. This law requires plans that cover women over age 35 to provide coverage for annual low-dose mammography to detect the presence of acute breast cancer. For purposes of this law, low-dose mammography includes digital mammography and breast tomosynthesis. The bill also defines breast tomosynthesis as a radiologic procedure that involves the acquisition of projection images over the stationary breast to produce cross-sectional, digital three-dimensional images of the breast.
This law takes effect on Sept. 1, 2017, and will apply to all plans delivered, issued for delivery or renewed on or after Jan. 1, 2018.
