On June 28, 2016, Gov. Raimondo signed HB 7160 into law. The new law requires group health plans to provide coverage for health care services provided through telemedicine for plans and policies issued or renewed on or after Jan. 1, 2018. “Telemedicine" is defined as the delivery of health care services by means of real time two-way audiovisual or other telecommunications or electronic communications. Plans can apply the same cost-sharing requirements, including coinsurance, copayments and deductibles, and prior authorization to health-care services provided through telemedicine that apply to the same health-care services provided in person.
