On June 17, 2016, Gov. Raimondo signed HB 7512 into law. The new law provides that plans and policies providing coverage for prescription drugs must provide coverage for drugs to treat cancer or other disabling or life-threatening chronic diseases. The drugs must be provided even if they are not approved for treatment by the Food and Drug Administration, as long as they are recognized for treatment for use in combating cancer or other disabling or life-threatening chronic diseases in standard medical literature. This law is effective Jan. 1, 2017.
