The Washington Department of Insurance amended Wash. Amend. Code § 284-43-5642 to align its rules with the federal guidance issued in October 2015 by the HHS requiring certain health plans to cover “intensive, multicomponent behavioral interventions for weight management.” The rule now states that with respect to individual and small group market issuers, to the extent the base benchmark plan excludes coverage for obesity or weight reduction, the health plans must nonetheless cover certain obesity-related services that are listed as A or B recommendations by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. This amendment is effective Oct. 21, 2016.
