On Sept. 29, 2015, the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner adopted R 2015-02, which finalizes a rule pertaining to the essential health benefit (EHB) designation and supplementation for 2017. This rule-making activity was required pursuant to new rules issued by the HHS, requiring each state to select a new base-benchmark plan and to update its EHB rule in conjunction with the new base-benchmark plan. The new EHB rules are effective Jan. 1, 2017.
