Prescription Eye Drop Refills

On April 11, 2017, Gov. Fallin signed H.B. 1819 into law. This law prohibits plans from denying coverage for prescription eye drop refills if:

  • a plan participant requests refills for a 30-day supply after he/she used at least 70 percent of the eye drops' dosage units or at least 21 days from the date the original prescription or most recent refill was distributed;
  • the prescribing doctor indicated on the original prescription that additional quantities of prescription eye drops are needed;
  • refills requested by plan participants don't exceed the number of additional quantities needed; and
  • prescription eye drops prescribed by doctors are covered by the plan.

This law is effective beginning on Nov. 1, 2017.
