WA State Updates - 2015 Jan 05 No.02

On April 28, 2015, Gov. Inslee signed Senate Substitute Bill (SSB) 5175 into law, requiring health insurance plans to cover telemedicine on par with coverage for in-person visits. The new law mandates telemedicine coverage when a health plan provides coverage of the health care service for face-to-face visits, the service is medically necessary and the service is recognized as an essential health benefit under the PPACA. Employers sponsoring high-deductible health plans should consult with their advisor if adding telemedicine coverage to the plan so that HSA eligibility is not adversely affected for participants. The law is effective July 24, 2015.
