The City of Dallas passed an earned paid sick leave ordinance that went into effect on August 1, 2019, for employers with six or more employees who work at least 80 hours within Dallas city limits. The city recently announced that it would not enforce the ordinance, except for violations of the anti-retaliation provision, until April 1, 2021. No part of the ordinance goes into effect for employers with five or fewer employees until August 1, 2021.
Employers with employees who would be subject to the ordinance should be aware of this development and consult with counsel to ensure that they are in compliance with the anti-retaliation provisions of the ordinance.
