June 30, 2015
On May 26, 2015, Gov. LePage signed LD 978 into law, creating Chapter 111. The law states that plans issued by commercial insurers cannot refuse to reimburse chiropractors who participate in insurers’ networks and provide covered services and procedures as long as chiropractors are acting within the lawful scope of their license when providing covered services and procedures. Plans are not required to accept all chiropractors into their networks, but cannot discriminate based on chiropractors' license. The legislation is effective for plans executed, delivered, issued for delivery, continued or renewed on or after Jan. 1, 2016.
