On Apr. 28, 2015, Gov. Bullock signed SB 192, amending Sec. 33-22-111 of the Montana Code Annotated. That section grants policy holders of insured plans the freedom of choice in practitioners including licensed physicians, dentists, optometrists, licensed social workers and acupuncturists among others for the treatment of any illness of injury within the scope and limitation of the person’s practice. The new law provides that fully insured health benefit plans must now provide coverage for health care services performed by audiologists, licensed addition counselors and speech-language pathologists. Employers with fully insured plans should be aware of the changes, and should reach out to insurers should they have questions. The change was effective April 28, 2015.
