On May 26, 2015, Gov. Shumlin signed S. 60 into law. The new law requires health insurers to provide certain coverage for victims of alleged sexual assault. The insurer may not impose any copayment, coinsurance, deductible or other cost sharing for the sexual assault examination. The examination should include treatment of the patient’s injuries, collection of evidence, assessment of pregnancy risk and screenings for sexually transmitted diseases. The law is effective Oct. 1, 2015.
